RENAULT 4P Rebuild

4PO5 magnesium upper casing scan Latest generation optical GOM Scanner is used for high accuracy parts digitalization.

Scanned model analysis Dedicated software is used for surface interpolation. This "digital metrology is the starting point for a new clean CAD model.
Foundry simulation Metal flow and cooling is simulated to save numerous real life trials, and to design the sand molds by predicting potential cracks or porosity.
3D printed sand core Sand cores and mold parts are 3D printed on a "sandprinter" without tooling.

Mold assembly This mold was made of 7 different sand parts.
Mold assembly The assembled mold is sealed, Only breathing holes and metal inlet remain open
Raw casting Once cooled down, the sand is removed from the part and metal feeding ducts are cut away. Aluminium parts are tempered and quenched. The part then goes through X-Rays and die penetrant checks
Straightening In some case straightening is required after quenching.
Deep hole drilling Some ducts may be drilled for accuracy and clean surface finishing
Machining Machinig is made on a 5 axis machining center
